I started my series of the Cuyahoga River in northeast Ohio, two years ago with the intention of learning to use oil paints and focusing on a single theme. While I have painted in series before, this one is a much larger project and one that might be open ended because of the great diversity in the landscape around the river and the river itself, which looks in places as a small creek and in others like a small lake. Changes of seasons and times of day have given me more variations and a way to give a greater sense of place in these paintings. Ray Hershberger, a good friend and mentor, was an inspiration with sense of place in his beautiful show of Swamps and Wetlands.
Jeanie Hearst
Her works embody interpretive plein air paintings in mostly pastel, oil and watercolor; florals; drawings and paintings of interesting faces and figures; as well as pets and abstracts. Jean much prefers to paint on location, from life, or from her imagination, and uses reference photos only occasionally. A resident artist at The Artists Gallery of The Virginia Beach Art Center, Jean exhibits frequently, and her work may be found in private collections throughout the United States and Canada.
Tonya Hopson
Originally from Grand Haven, Michigan, I started sketching around the age of 12 inspired by the abundance of nature on our farm. I took art classes in junior and senior high school and then attended college on scholarship for Nursing. Upon completing school, I joined the Marine Corps and active duty brought me to the Tidewater area ~ where I have resided for over 25 years. After completing my service with the Marine Corps, I got married, started a family while working full time. Painting and drawing had to wait until after my son graduated and went to college.

I graduated from Princess Anne High School in 1988. I then followed my passion for art at East Tennessee State University with a degree in graphic design, I have worked in the sign industry for 20 years. Balancing art and design I have always striven to give my customers the best artwork possible. Creating informative and unique designs is a challenge I always love to take on. Art is a passion for me, not just a job.
