CONSTANCE FAHEY
Constance Fahey is a founding member of The Artists Gallery. What began in 1987 as a group of 8 artists who banded together to create affordable studio spaces by sharing maintenance costs, space and equipment has expanded many times over. Nearing 35 years as a cooperative, the group recently merged with the Virginia Beach Artist Center and moved into a larger space that accommodates artists and clay sculptors in a new home together in the ViBe Creative District of Virginia Beach.
“I have always lived by the sea and many of its shores. The energy, passion, and ever-changing beauty of the ocean inspire my seascapes. My concern for the sand dunes, marine life, and their fragile environment is evident in many of my paintings. I hope that my work will inspire preservation so that their beauty will be seen by generations to come.” |
KAY HOFLER
Kay Hofler is a professional artist and a member of The Artists Gallery, located at 532 Virginia Beach Blvd. in Virginia Beach. She has exhibited in many local shows and at the present time her work can be seen in a shared studio at The Artists Gallery in Virginia Beach. Her work is in many private and public collections in the eastern United States.
Kay holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education from Longwood University and a Master of Arts Degree in Humanities from Old Dominion University. She is currently retired from the Virginia Beach School System after an award winning career as an art teacher and Fine Arts Department Chair. "I am a painter of natural forms who enjoys the movement and three dimensional quality of plants, flowers, shells, vegetables, and fruits. I prefer to paint close-up views in a large format using oil medium on canvas. The large format gives me the opportunity to create a more dynamic impact that emphasizes the beauty found in nature. It is always a struggle to comprehend the magnitude and wonder of the natural world. Creating art, for me, is a way of coming in touch with the mysticism of nature." |
AMY RATLIFF
The Artists Gallery opened an exciting chapter in my life that I had always wanted to pursue: painting full time! I had just finished my teaching and administrative career when Kay Hofler invited me to the monthly opening receptions. I discovered a cooperative that was welcoming and nurturing. Since joining I have renewed contacts with former art students and colleagues and made new associations with gallery members, patrons and customers. I also organize the gallery’s education outreach program of workshops and demonstrations. Exchanging ideas and viewpoints with fellow artists has been stimulating to both the creative expression and discovery in my work. All these experiences enrich my life beyond measure. On this 25th Anniversary, I wish many more years of success for The Artists Gallery!

VALERIE WHITE
After a long career as an attorney, Valerie discovered acrylic painting and mixed media art. She quickly fell in love with the color, creativity, and ability to lose oneself in the process. Valerie especially enjoys creating vibrant abstracts but also creates loose cityscapes, landscapes, figures, and florals. Valerie ‘s pieces are driven by emotion rather than elaborate plan or design. After developing a broad concept for a piece, she lets her organic response to the process drive the decision making.
Valerie‘s mixed media piece, “Large Reclining Nude: Body Image Edition,” won Best in Show in the 2022 Fabulous Forgeries show at the Virginia Beach Art Center. Valerie‘s mixed media piece, “Diversity,” was selected by the Norfolk NEON Public Art Committee for outdoor display. The Gallery at the Cuffee Library hosted an exhibition titled “Opposites Attract: The Abstract Art of Valerie and Matthew White.” Valerie has participated in numerous juried shows including at the Virginia Beach Art Center, ArtWorks of Richmond, Chesapeake Rotary Art Show, Norfolk Academy, and the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art. |
